Arena finalizes roster for Sunday's friendly against Serbia
Toronto FC forward Jozy Altidore is set to earn his 100th cap when the U.S. national team meets Serbia at Qualcomm Stadium in San Diego at 1 p.m. PT Sunday. Altidore was named to the 23-man roster by coach Bruce Arena Friday.
"I have been extremely pleased with the effort and progress we have seen throughout the January camp," Arena said. "The entire pool of players has performed well and has made our roster decisions very difficult. We are excited to take the next step and look forward to the game against Serbia in San Diego."
Five players were released: Taylor Kemp (D.C. United), Keegan Rosenberry (Philadelphia Union), Brian Rowe (LA Galaxy), Wil Trapp (Columbus Crew) and Chris Wondolowski (San Jose Earthquakes). LA Galaxy striker Gyasi Zardes has a right knee cut and will not travel.
Altidore could become the 17th player in USMNT history to earn 100 caps and the second youngest after Landon Donovan.
A total of 31 players gathered at the National Training Center in Carson, Calif., in preparation for games against Serbia and Jamaica (Feb. 3).
