Freddy loaned to A.S. Monaco

LISBON, Portugal—U.S. international Freddy Adu has been loaned to A.S. Monaco of Ligue 1 in France by his Portuguese club Benfica. Monaco also has an option to acquire the 19-year-old permanently.

Adu, who last week was named to the U.S. Olympic soccer team, had seen limited time with the Portuguese club and did not figure into new coach Quique Sánchez Flores plans.

The 19-year old Adu joined Benfica last year from Major League Soccer’s Real Salt Lake, where he spent half a season after spending three years with D.C. United.
