Costa Rica on top of qualifying

Carlos Costly scored two goals to lead Costa Rica to a 4-0 win over Honduras and Cornel Glen scored the only goal in Trinidad & Tobago’s 1-0 win over El Salvador in the other CONCACAF World Cup Qualifiers on Wednesday.

With their win, Costa Rica holds the lead in the group, with a 4-0-2 record for 12 points. Honduras and the United States are tied for second place with ten points, each having a 3-1-2 record, while Mexico is in fourth place with a 3-0-3 record and nine points.

El Salvador and Trinidad & Tobago both have five points with 1-2-3 records.

The top three teams automatically qualify for a place in next year’s World Cup in South Africa. The fourth place finisher will have a playoff with the fifth place team from South America.

All six CONCACAF teams continue qualifying competition on September 5.

The U.S hosts El Salvador at Rio Tinto Stadium in Sandy, Utah, Mexico faces Costa Rica in San Jose, CRC and Honduras hosts T&T in Tegucigalpa.
