Hejduk added to U.S. training camp
CHICAGO---Veteran defender Frankie Hejduk was added to the U.S. National Team's training camp roster for World Cup qualifying matches against Honduras in San Pedro Sula, Honduras Saturday and against Costa Rica in Washington, D.C. Oct. 14.
This is the fourth qualifying campaign for Hejduk, who has 84 career caps (second most on the roster for the Honduras match) and seven international goals.
The 35-year-old Hejduk played in 17 qualifiers, most recently in the 3-0 victory against Trinidad & Tobago April 1. Hejduk set up one goal and scored the equalizer in the 2-2 draw against El Salvador on March 28 in San Salvador March 28..
Hejduk, the Columbus Crew captain, brought the U.S. roster to 22 players in Miami. He was scheduled to arrive in Miami Tuesday night and begin training with the U.S. team Wednesday.
The U.S. was down a player because midfielder Clint Dempsey has been sidelined with a shoulder injury.
U.S. coach Bob Bradley will name an 18-man game day roster for each match.
