Vicki DiMartino, Mewis sisters get call

Vicki DiMartino and Kristie Mewis of Boston College and Samantha Mewis of Scorpion SC will start training with the U.S. Under-20 Women's National Team in Sunrise, Fla. on Saturday. The 24-player training camp will run from Dec. 12-19.

DiMartino made a big first impression as Boston College (15-2-1, 7-2-1) tied FSU for the top spot in the ACC. DiMartino ranks second in the conference in points (32) and goals (14). She joins sister Gina in becoming the first siblings to earn the ACC Freshman of the Year honors. Gina DiMartino was selected in 2006. Di Martino was named the ACC Freshman of the Year. She is a finalist for the Soccer News Net Player of the Year Award.

Samantha Mewis is of only five players not yet in college is also on the roster.

U.S. Head coach Jillian Ellis will use the camp to make some final decisions on a roster that will represent the United States at the CONCACAF U-20 Women’s Qualifying Tournament that will send three nations to Germany for the 2010 FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup. The qualifying tournament will be held in Guatemala from Jan. 19-30, at the 17,000-seat Estadio Cementos Progreso.
