A CHANCE TO TAKE THE GROUP
U.S. U-20 women vs. Mexico Monday
GUATEMALA CITY, Guatemala -- After defeating Trinidad and Tobago 4-0 and Jamaica 6-0 in the first two games of the CONCACAF Women's Under-20 tournament, the U.S. heads into the final group match against Mexico Monday, Jan. 25 AT 5:30 p.m. ET, with the top place in Group B up for grabs.
The U.S. can finish atop the group with either a win or a tie, as the Americans hold the goal-difference tiebreaker advantage over Mexico.
The first place team will face Group A runner-up Costa Rica at 2:30 p.m. ET, while the second team will take on Group A winner, and reigning regional champion Canada at 5:30 p.m. ET.
Both semifinal matches will take place Thursday, Jan. 28, and be televised live on Fox Soccer Channel, as well as streamed live on CONCACAF.com. Fans can also follow the U.S. matches in real time via ussoccer.com’s MatchTracker.
“I can already sense with this team that how we play is important to them," U.S. coach Jillian Ellis said. "The next game against Mexico will be a very good test for us. We’re pleased to know that we advanced but the ultimate goal is to qualify and at this point there are just two teams that stand between us and qualifying.”
Added U.S. forward Sydney Leroux: “It’s a breath of fresh air knowing that we’re through. We’re happy, excited and we are ready to play against Mexico. We are definitely going to have to bring our ‘A’ game because we know they are going to be a good opponent for us.”
