U.S. picks WC practice site in South Africa

CHICAGO---The U.S. National Team will return to the practice field in Pretoria, South Africa for the World Cup this June, the same field that helped the Americans to their success at the FIFA Confederations Cup last summer, U.S. Soccer announced Monday.

The U.S. will train at Pilditch Stadium.

After a slow start last June, the Americans won two consecutive games and led Brazil at halftime in the championship game, before falling 3-2.

The U.S. team will be staying at the Irene Country Lodge and according to the Associated Press had considered Smithdowns College as its training site before Italy announced Monday that it would be practicing there during the World Cup.
