Howard expected to be ready vs. Slovenia

JOHANNESBURG -- U.S. goalkeeper Tim Howard is expected to be available for the U.S.-Slovenia Group C World Cup match at Ellis Park on Friday, according to U.S. Soccer.

Howard, the man of the match after his superb performance against England, continued "to make substantial improvement" from the bruised ribs he suffered when forward Emile Heskey kicked him in his right side in the 29th minute.

The U.S. team medical staff said that former MetroStars keeper would not need to undergo additional tests after he underwent a physical examination Monday morning.

The Americans will finish group play against Algeria in Tshwane/Pretoria on June 23.
