Bedoya in, Feilhaber out for the U.S.

DETROIT -- As expected, United States Monday added midfielder Alejandro Bedoya to its CONCACAF Gold roster to replace midfielder Benny Feilhaber.

Feilhaber suffered an injured ankle in the New England Revolutionís 1-0 loss to the Los Angeles Galaxy on May 28.

Bedoya will be eligible to play against Canada in the Americans' opening Gold Cup match at Ford Field at 8 p.m. Tuesday. In the first game of the doubleheader, Panama will meet Guadeloupe.

Bedoya earned all eight of his caps for the U.S. last year and was named to the 30-man preliminary roster for the World Cup. He has been training with the team since May 30 and appeared in the loss to World Cup champion Spain in Foxborough, Mass. on June 4.

Feilhaber scored the game-winning goal that lifted the United States to a 2-1 victory over Mexico in the 2007 Gold Cup championship game in Chicago. That goal and win gave the U.S. an opportunity to play in the 2009 FIFA Confederations Cup in South Africa, where the Americans surprised Spain in the semifinals and finished second to Brazil.
