U.S. Open Cup

Emigrantes das Ilhas defeated Queen City, 1-0, in Rochester, N.Y., Sunday to reach the final four of U.S. Adult Soccer Association Region 1 qualifying for the U.S. Open Cup.

Emigrantes will meet Danbury United of Connecticut at 2 p.m. Sunday, May 20 in Brockton in the next round. Danbury United defeated the Lowell Revolution, 5-0, in another quarterfinal game. Aegean Hawks will meet A.C. United in the other semifinal match; the two winning teams will advance to the U.S. Open Cup 32-team bracket of lower division teams, which will play two rounds of qualifying before facing MLS teams.

Pressure from Zico Veiga on a corner kick led to a Queen City own goal during injury time for Emigrantes, a club with Cape Verde-Portuguese roots, representing the Rhode Island Soccer Association.
