Chivas becomes fifth team to crash
SEATTLE, Wash. – Chivas USA was eliminated in the third round of the US Open Cup, after a 3-1 defeat by Seattle Sounders (USL-1), in a game played at Qwest Field. Five Major League Soccer clubs have been defeated by lower-level clubs in the Open Cup thus far.
Lauren Merlin scored Chivas USA's only goal in the 16th minute, but Seba Le Toux had a pair in the 44th and 51st minutes, to give the Sounders the lead and later in the contest, in the 82st minute.
Roger Lavesque who assisted on both of Le Toux’ goals, scored the third for the home team, on an assist from Le Toux.
The Seattle Sounders will face Colorado Rapids in the next round of the ‘Lamar Hunt’ US Open Cup.
The Los Angeles Galaxy, Houston Dynamo, D.C. United and Chicago Fire all were eliminated by USL clubs.
