Fire subs blank Wizards 2-0
BRIDGEVIEW, Ill---The Chicago Fire used only one regular in the starting lineup as they defeated the Kansas City Wizards 2-0 at Toyota Park Monday night.
Rookie Calen Carr got the scoring started early. In the eighth minute, Chad Barrett sent a cross from the left side of the field to Calen Carr, who was in the box. Carr got a foot on it, beat defenders and sent a high ball into the net for a 1-0 lead
In the second half, Andy Herron came out firing on all cylinders. After three missed attempts in a five-minute span, Herron finally found the back of the net in the 65th minute. Brian Plotkin crossed the ball into the box to Herron. He jumped up and headed it between Kansas City goalkeeper Will Hesmer and the right post for a 2-0 lead.
The Fire moves on in the tournament to face the New England Revolution in a Quarterfinal match-up set for Wednesday, Aug. 23 at Toyota Park (7:30 p.m. CT).
