United, Dynamo, Galaxy advance
D.C. UNITED 3, NEW YORK RED BULLS 1
WASHINGTON, D.C.---D.C. United spoiled Bruce Arena’s return to R.F.K. Stadium Wednesday night, defeating the New York Red Bulls 3-1 in a the quarter finals of the U.S. Open Cup.
The teams traded first-half goals, United's Joshua Gros scoring from three yards in the 37th minute and the Bulls' Amado Guevara equalizing, putting in Marvell Wynne's rebound four minutes later.
Little used Jamil Walker, who scored his lone MLS goal in the 4-1 rout of the Bulls in April, put in an Alecko Eskandarian free kick in the 61st minute and scored again in the 84th minute.
HOUSTON DYNAMO 3, FC DALLAS 0
HOUSTON---The Housaton Dynamo defeated cross-state rivals FC Dallas 3-0 in the quarter finals of the U.S. Open Cup on Wednesday.
Eddie Robinson gave Houston the lead in the 13th minute, and Alejandro Morero scored in the 57th minute and Chris Wondolowski added a goal four minutes later.
LOS ANGELES GALAXY 3, COLORADO RAPIDS 1 OT
CARSON, Calif---Landon Donovan scored two overtime goals to lead the Los Angeles Galaxy to a 3-1 win over the Colorado Rapids in the quarter finals of the U.S. Open Cup Wednesday.
Clint Mathis gave Colorado a 1-0 lead in the third minute, but Quevas Kirk equalized just before half time.
Donovan tallied in the 93rd and 115th minutes. Kirk assisted on the game winner.
The Galaxy will face the Houston Dynamo in the semi finals.
