USWNT set for Japan in June

CHICAGO -- The U.S. Women's National Team will face Japan at Dick's Sporting Goods Park in Commerce City, Colo., at 7 p.m. MT June 2, U.S. Soccer announced Monday. The match will be broadcast on FS1.

This will mark the first meeting between the teams since the Women's World Cup Final July 5, 2015 in Vancouver, B.C., the U.S. winning, 5-2. Carli Lloyd provided a hat trick as the U.S. claimed its record third Women's World Cup title.

"Given the history and rivalry of these two teams, we know this match will provide challenges and pressures similar to what we will see in Rio, so in terms of preparation, we couldn't ask for a better matchup," U.S. coach Jill Ellis said.

The USA is 9-0-0 in 2016 heading into matches against Colombia at Pratt & Whitney Stadium in East Hartford, Conn., at 7 p.m. ET Wednesday (FS1) and at Talen Energy Stadium in Chester, Pa., at 2 p.m. ET Sunday (ESPN).

The USA and Japan have met in the last three world championship finals -- 2011 Women's World Cup, 2012 Olympics and 2015 Women's World Cup. Japan failed to qualify for 2016 Rio Olympics at the Asia qualifying tournament in March.
