Allie Long's brace helps USA women over Colombia, 7-0

EAST HARTFORD, Conn. - Midfielder Allie Long scored her first two international goals to spark the United States women to a 7-0 win over Colombia in a friendly at Pratt & Whitney Stadium Wednesday night.

Crystal Dunn, Mallory Pugh, Carli Lloyd, Tobin Heath and Christen Press also found the net for the Americans, who won for the 10th time in as many games in 2016. The USA has outscored its foes this year, 39-1.

The hosts broke open the game, striking for four goals within a 12-minute span in the first half on a chilly night.

Dunn opened the scoring in the 27th minute. After Heath had two shots blocked, Lloyd corralled the rebound and found Dunn in the middle of the box. The USA forward beat an onrushing goalkeeper Catalina Perez from 12 yards.

Five minutes later, Dunn passed to Lindsey Horan on the left flank and the midfielder lofted a cross into the area that Long headed home at the far post for her first international score and a 2-0 lead.

Pugh, the youngest American player at 17, slipped in a Lloyd feed from six yards into the right corner for a 3-0 advantage in the 33rd minute.

In the 39th minute, Dunn again fed Pugh on the left side and the teenager targeted a centering pass into the middle to Lloyd, who slotted in her 87th international goal for a 4-0 lead. It also was the USA captain's 24th goal in her last 23 matches.

The Americans continued to push forward in the second half. Dunn ran down a long ball on the right flank and crossed to Heath, who volleyed the home from six yards for the fifth score.

Center back Julie Johnston took advantage of a poor Colombian clearance in the 65th minute. She headed the ball to Long, who nodded from the goalmouth for a 6-0 bulge.

Press, a second-half substitute, latched onto a Dunn feed after quick restart, connecting from 16 yards in the 74th minute for the final goal.

The teams will meet again in Chester, Pa. Sunday.
