U.S. women's international midfielder Carli Lloyd suffered a Grade 1 MCL sprain and will miss from three to six weeks with the Houston Dash, the National Women's Soccer League team said Monday.

An MRI scan Monday morning confirmed the injury.

Lloyd, the 2015 FIFA Women's World Player of the Year, suffered the injury in the fifth minute when she went in for a tackle against an Orlando Pride player in a 3-1 loss Saturday night.

I would like to thank everyone for their well wishes. Obviously, Im very disappointed with the injury. I was feeling great and starting to get comfortable with my Dash teammates, Lloyd said in a statement. The timing is not great but Im confident that I will come back in peak condition. Rehab starts tomorrow and youll see me on the field soon.

The Dash return to BBVA Compass Stadium on Friday to host Sky Blue FC at 8:30 p.m. ET Friday.

Sky Blue defeated Seattle Reign FC to open the season and fell 2-1 the Washington Spirit Sunday.

We wish Carli the best as she recovers from this injury, Dash managing director Brian Ching said in a statement. We have built a deep squad this season. There has been a lot of competition for playing time and with the recent injuries it is a great opportunity for other players to step in and get minutes this Friday against Sky Blue FC.

With the U.S. women's national team playing at the Rio Olympics in August, it will need Lloyd in top form. Lloyd was the star of last year's USA squad, which captured the Women's World Cup title.
