NBCSN averages 1.3 million for USWNT game

RIO DE JANEIRO ––NBCSN averaged 1.3 million viewers for the U.S. women’s soccer team’s 2-0 victory over New Zealand Wednesday day on the opening day of soccer competition at the Rio Olympics – topping by 107% the viewership for the team’s 2012 London Olympics opener (629,000 viewers for U.S.-France).

Viewership for the match (6-8 p.m. ET), peaked in the second half at 1.6 million viewers between 7:30-7:45 p.m. ET.
Highlighted by goals from Carli Lloyd and Alex Morgan, the match averaged a .77 rating on NBCSN – up 93% from the women’s soccer opener in 2012 (.40).

Across and the NBC Sports app, viewers streamed 10.5 million live minutes of Thursday’s Olympics coverage (featuring six women’s soccer matches) -- up 84% from the corresponding day at the 2012 London Olympics (5.7 million minutes for six matches).

The U.S. women’s soccer team next faces France this Saturday, August 6 at 4 p.m. ET on NBCSN. France defeated Columbia 4-0 Wednesday.

The Opening Ceremony for the 2016 Rio Olympics is tomorrow, Friday, August 5 at 7:30pm ET/PT on NBC.
