Controversial GK on roster for U.S. tour

Goalkeeper Hope Solo, who was involved in a major controversy at last month's Women's World Cup in China, was among 20 women named to the roster for its three-game, eight-day tour by the U.S. Women's National Team.

In a controversial move, Solo was replaced by coach Greg Ryan for the Americans' semifinal match against Brazil last month. The U.S. dropped a 4-0 decision and wound up finishing third.

Incensed by being benched, Solo criticized Ryan and Briana Scurry, who had replaced her in goal.

While she wasn't technically suspended, Solo was not allowed to practice or eat with the team for the rest of the tournament. In fact, to make sure there were no incidents, Solo and her family returned home separately, away from the rest of the team.

The U.S. will face Mexico three times in an eight-day span starting at 8 p.m. ET at the Edward Jones Dome in St. Louis, Mo..

The Americans will travel west to face the Tricolor Femenil on Oct. 17 at PGE Park in Portland, Ore. with a 10 p.m. ET kickoff. The final match takes place at University Stadium in Albuquerque, N.M. with a 6:30 p.m. ET kickoff Oct. 20.

The U.S. will be without two players from its WWC roster. Defender Stephanie Lopez will not be available to play in the first and third matches, as she has returned to her college team at the University of Portland, but will available for the match in Portland. Midfielder Marci Jobson will not be available for any of the three matches as she has returned to her post as head women’s soccer coach at Northern Illinois University.
