ANOTHER U.S. WIN
4-0 Shutout over Mexico


PORTLAND, Ore.---Kristine Lilly, Abby Wambach, Natasha Kai and Carli Lloyd each scored as the United States defeated Mexico 4-0 in front of 10,006 fans at PGE Park Wednesday night. It was the second straight win over Mexico for the U.S.

Lilly opened the scoring in stoppage time of the first half. The U.S. captain took a corner kick that passed through the hands of Mexican goalkeeper Sophia Perez and crossed the goal line.

Wambach, playing in her 100th game for the national team, made it 2-0 in the 76th minute. Cat Whitehill took a free kick from 45 yards out. Lindsey Tarpley flicked the ball onto Wambach who slid and tapped it into the net.

In the 83rd minute, Lloyd took a shot that hit Kai. Kai took one touch to settle it before poking it into the net.

Lloyd added the final goal five minutes later, finishing off another free kick from Whitehill.

The U.S. outshot Mexico 11-4. U.S. goalkeeper Nicole Barnhart, who was the third string keeper at the recent Women’s World Cup made one save. Perez made four for Mexico.

The U.S. has one game remaining in the three game series with Mexico in Albuquerque, N.M. on Saturday at 4:30 p.m. MT.
