HOPE SPRINGS ETERNAL
Gulati: Solo to be invited to residency camp
She might have been shunned by her National Team teammates during the final week of the Women's World Cup in China last month. But goalkeeper Hope Solo hasn't been suspended from the team and can play with the side next year, U.S. Soccer president Sunil Gulati said during a conference call Monday.
"Hope is not suspended from the team," he said. "Hope would be invited to the residency program next year. Any further discussions or decisions about Hope would be up to the new head coach, but there is not an issue with the federation in any way, shape or form about her participation."
Solo made headlines, criticizing former U.S. women's national coach Greg Ryan and her replacement, Briana Scurry, after she was replaced for the semifinal confrontation against Brazil.
Gulati said that he and general secretary Dan Flynn have spoken to Solo.
"So, from our perspective, she is absolutely eligible to play for the U.S. team,” he added.
