U.S. women lead FIFA rankings

The U.S. Women’s National Team was still No. 1 in the latest FIFA rankings following the Americans' gold-medal triumph in Beijing Aug. 21.

Germany was in second place, 59 points behind the U.S., the largest-ever gap between the two long-time powers. Olympic silver-medallists Brazil was ranked third followed by Sweden and North Korea.

Norway dropped to sixth, followed by France, Denmark, Japan and Canada.

Ireland, which will play the U.S. in its first three games on the Achieve Your Gold Tour, starting on Sept. 13 in Philadelphia (8:00pm ET), is ranked 28th. The Americans play the Irish at Giants Stadium on Wednesday, Sept. 17 at 7:30 p.m. and on Sept. 20 at Toyota Park at 8:00 pm ET.

The next FIFA women’s world rankings will be released in December.
