A-Rod joins stellar group of U.S. stars

VANCOUVER---Amy Rodriguez joined some pretty select company in scoring five goals for the United States Women’s National Team in a 14-0 rout of the Dominican Republic at BC Place Friday night.

Rodriguez became the fifth American to score goals in a game, and the first since teammate Abby Wambach did it in 2004.

Rodriguez, a second half sub, struck for her hat-trick within a 13-minute span with goals in the 47th, 48th and 59th minutes. A-Rod also tallied in the 71st and 75th minutes.

The 14 goals were the most ever scored by the U.S. in a game, eclipsing the old record of 12, which was done twice.

Previous five goal games
Brandi Chastain 4/18/91 (Mexico 12-0)
Michelle Akers 11/24/91 (Chinese Taipei 9-0)
Tiffeny Milbrett 11/2/02 (Panama 9-0)
Abby Wambach 10/23/04 (Ireland 5-0)
Amy Rodriguez 1/20/12 (Dominican Republic 14-0)
